Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Gary started working out with kettlebells more than eleven years ago. While watching preseason NFL coverage, a feature on Dallas Cowboys player Jason Witten showed him doing Turkish Get Ups as part of his training. Gary was intrigued and, after seeing his gym had kettlebells, began working TGUs and other kettlebell movements into his routine. After moving to San Diego in 2011, he joined a kettlebell gym in Pacific Beach, then found KOR after moving to the North Park area. Gary has competed with Team KOR in numerous Kettlebell Sport competitions, earning Candidate for Master of Sport (CMS) in Snatch, Long Cycle and Biathlon (Snatch and Jerk).
Gary is an ACE-certified personal trainer. His fitness background also includes a Ketacademy Level 2 Kettlebell Sport certificate, Ying Jow Pai Eagle Claw Kung Fu and he is currently studying through the C.H.E.K. Institute physical fitness program.
